Mike Witowski and myself fished the Barbee Chain Saturday from 10am-4pm, 7pm-midnight. Fished just about every lure possible, Big bucktails, small bucktails, gliders, mag dawgs, pounders, twitch baits/minnow baits, crankbaits, topwaters, and other big plastics....nada. I saw one fish after dark in a weedy bay over about 15 feet on a Black Cowgirl. Not much surface activity and no movement during the day at all. We figured we would give the full moon a try so we stayed on the water for about 3 hours after dark, but came up empty handed. We fished all 7 lakes but focused on Big Barbee, Sawmill, Sechrist, and Irish. From reading a few of the guides' sites from the Webster area lakes....we probably should have fished Webster or Tippy. Oh well

I am heading out for the Thanksgiving weekend. Seems like I may need to break some ice to get out of the channel. Anyone doing any good on the chain recently? I am leaning toward vertical jigging and/or a slow moving dawgs. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, I was at the access this evening and the channel has ice all the way out to Kuhn. Not sure how thick. Wind was blowing from the south may help break some of it up.

Good luck if you go.

Thanks for the update. The water was undecided on whether to freeze or not. Wednesday I got out there after breaking through the ice in the channel and went 0 for 2 on a Fuzzy Doesn't Hang 10. Thursday most of Little Barbee was covered and my brother and I fished around it and broke the ice to out to Big Barbee. We didn't know if we would be able to break the ice come Friday so we pulled the boat out. Friday the lakes were wide open and Saturday half froze again. We fished Big & Little, and Seachrist - no fish. We saw a school of shad the size of a house moving in and out of the channels between the lakes. Fished around there with a while with no luck. My Musky season is over, brought my reels home for bearing upgrades and such. Time to chase some steelhead, try some ice fishing and wait for the fishing shows.
See you all at the meeting on the 13th.

Went out on Saturday and we launched at Kuhn. It was 1-/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Luckily, one boater preceeded us and there was a narrow pathway of broken ice on Kuhn. Big Barbee was completely open. Tried Little Barbee but no go. So we fished Big Barbee and didn't move a thing all day.
