Hey everyone, just looking for opinions on lure colors and want to see what everyone has to say about purple baits?? All comments welcome. This is a purple w/white firetiger stripes Monster MuskieBurger. This bait can be used as a topwater, casted and will go down 2-3 feet and if trolled will go down 7-9 feet at 3.8-4.2 mph. Thanks for looking and good luck fishing. Ken
I think success rates with purple definitely rise on Lakes with a cisco forage base. I notice on a few of our lakes up here, Purple, Blues, Pinks, & whites seemed to get chomped more on cisco lakes, and Charts, Oranges, and reds, on others with a perch/panfish base. It obviously isn't that much of a breakthrough, just thought I'd add it.
I have a purple and yellow bait that I nicknamed 'Kobe'. I caught a 44"er on it and my dad caught a 43"er and a 47 "er on it. I really thought the bait was gonna suck, but apparently it doesn't. I think some baits just catch fish while other baits don't...color is secondary to a lure's actions and vibrations and application. I think if you had 10 purple and yellow baits, one or two of them would catch fish while the other eight were hung up on the wall as decoration because they didn't even move fish. It's just a matter of finding that 20% bait. I've had numerous lures that were the same make and color and some just outperformed others for whatever reason. Just my humble opinion. I'm still guilty of buying every bait in the book in the hopes that I find a winner.
ken,
purple is a great ol'timers bait color. just remember; confidence is key in baits & color I personally, like to use purple in stained water.
Good luck!

I tied up a couple Purple bucktails with different colored blades (orange/copper/nickel) and threw them over the 4th of July week and had several follows, but no takers....only time will tell.
