An ugly beater F150. Who cares? It's the boat that matters.
Boat:
Ranger 620
Favorite Fishing Memory:
I love when someone boats their first, their most, or their first 50"er with me. Putting someone on one of their "firsts" is always a highlight. All the super-whoppers are memorable too, of course.
Favorite Waters:
Mille Lacs, Miltona
Favorite Style of Fishing:
Catching - whatever it takes
Favorite Lures:
Spanky Bait Fireball, Big plastics, Slammer cranks
Tournaments:
Nah, I'd rather guide or fish with family/friends.
Paul was my special guest on this past week's Outdoor Pursuits Radio. You can listen to the archived show anytime, anywhere! Please check it out, we had a great time!!!!

It's been interesting, but perhaps the one thing that has surprised me most is how lucky we are to catch these fish. There seems to be no pattern to their movements under different conditions. Cloudy day? One fish will be in the middle of the channel and another buried in the slop. Sunny days are the same. Windy days too. The fish also seem to hold near the main structure, but not necessarily on it. Usually in areas that casters wouldn't target, even though the areas are still shallow and could be easily castable if one ventured off the main structure a bit.
Strange fish, that's for sure! Gotta love 'em though!
Hey Paul! We finally cracked the 50" mark (50.25) for the project, with a bruiser of a fish! Didn't girth it, but she was HEAVY (pushing 40 lbs). Smoked a double 10 over milfoil. Caught it in between tracking a smaller fish we just caught 20 mins prior. That was July 17 and since then fishing has gone downhill with major fronts moving through dumping massive amounts of rain.
We MAY even start using surgically implanted acoustic tags to get more, fine-detail data. Looking at depths of movements, acceleration to determine feeding, etc. I'm hoping we can swing it as it would definitely be VERY interesting from both a scientist's and fisherman's perspective.
Hey, Paul! Hope your season is going well. Sounds like the bite on ML is good. The custom Fireball I had tied up at the Chicago Show produced two nice Ottawa River fish for us last week that we are using in our study. 48" and 44.5"... The 48" is sticking around the structure she was caught from, but the 44.5" is no where to be found!!! (We're radio tracking them)
