Not too much longer...

and I'll be out on the water with my brother Travis pounding the waters for the first muskie of the year. After fishing the opener in Vilas county this past weekend for walleyes, we have a challenge for the upcoming muskie season. You see, most of the lakes have just gotten rid of their ice and water temps ranged from 38˙F to 40˙ F. Most of the walleyes we had caught were egg laden females that hadn't start spawning yet. They were holding in the deeper water and a good portion of the fish hadn't… Continue

Hot new ticket.

Well I wonder what will be the hot new ticket in the boat this year. Every year it seems that some bait that my brother, friend, or I use will be the hot bait. It can either be a brand new bait that the fish hadn't seen before, or an old classic. Whatever is the case, it seems if the fish haven't seen it for awhile it should be effective. Of course there's always the old standbys that will produce a fish or two, but those baits can fizzle out a bit. This year I think Rodger Water's bait the hard… Continue

Times are tough.

But hey they could be a lot tougher. Man, it's just crazy when I watch the news now days. Girls beating up girls to post on the internet. Gas prices are soaring. Food prices are soaring. People are losing their jobs and homes. It seems that everyday it can be a little depressing listening to the news.

As a nation I think we are taking a step back, but we all can make a difference. Being kind to your neighbor. Holding the door for the guy behind you. Just thinking about how our actions will affe… Continue

Soul Fishing.

My brother and I had talked about this. I've talked with other people that are household names in the industry, and they've also expressed this thought. It's fishing for the soul and nothing else. It's about being on the water and making it therapy for the body. No added pressure to put fish in the boat or catching a 50". It's not about the number of fish caught for the year, or keeping count of all fish over 50".

Now days it seems that many people want to be the rock stars in the fishing indus… Continue

Hey Shawn,

Never knew you were such a deep thinking person, some good thoughts there! Hope you and Travis have a safe and fun year on the water and hope things are well with your wife.

Looks like I will be at the woods July 3-19 (if I still have a job)

Did I hear you were going up with Norm, Saint and that crew?

Have a good one!
